500,000 THOUSAND ACCIDENT FREE MAN-HOURS
On the 11th of December, GATES PCM Construction Ltd commemorated the reaching of a milestone achievement in the safety aspect of its QX14-018 project.
Having clocked over 500,000 accident-free man-hours as part of this project, the team commemorated the achievement by honouring it’s most safety conscious supervisors and workers with safety performance awards.
The QX14-018 project was awarded to GATES PCM Construction Ltd by SMRT Corporation on April 2015. The project involves the replacement and installation of 92km or Third Rail along the East-West Railway Line, the second oldest MRT railway line in Singapore. Even before the commencement of the project, the team had set for itself high standards by setting the Safety, Health and Environment target as keeping to an Accident Frequency Rate (AFR) of not more than 0.9 and Accident Severity Rate (ASR) of not more than 20.
However, the team outdid themselves with regards to these standards, according to safety officer at GATES PCM Construction Ltd, Mr. Johnvictor Charles. “Since the start if this project, we had zero reportable accidents and so we have achieved zero for both our AFR and ASR. This has led to us achieving this incredible milestone of clocking 500,000 accident-free man-hours. All these would not have been possible without the teamwork and commitment of each staff member,” said the proud 35 years old.
Beyond the safety aspect, the project has also produced multiple record setting achievements for GATES PCM Construction Ltd. On the 25th of April 2016, the installation team managed to replace and install 328m of Third Rail and components during normal engineering hours of 130am – 430am with a team of 31 workers. Not resting on their laurels, the team went one further on the 4th of September 2016 by replacing 649 meters of Third Rail and components in a single night during extended engineering hours.
Not to be outdone, the delivery team for project QX14-018 also set their own record by delivering 168 rails of 15 meters each and corresponding components, sufficient for 2.7km of Third Rail replacement and installation in a single night.
Director of GATES PCM Construction Ltd, Mr. Vignesh Partheeban said, “My thanks goes to all the support and commitment from our management projects leaders, engineers, supervisors and workers, which made these achievements possible. This will most certainly not be the end of our achievements as part of this project as our team is committed to working with the same spirit of excellence and achievement till the end of this project and subsequent projects as well.”
